Elaine's Story

30/05/2019

A volunteer at Jersey Hospice, Elaine is a bubbly, helpful individual who just cannot do enough for others.

‘As a stay-at-home mum with twin daughters, I found time on my hands to begin raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. As the twins grew, I wanted to fill my growing spare time with worthy tasks and when a friend applied to volunteer at Jersey Hospice I did too - and I’ve never looked back.

‘With my daughters now 12 they come along with me and help out when they can. I get so much out of volunteering, it’s a joy to see residents enjoy just the little things like reading or just chatting. Maintaining normality in the way we work together and how we interact with residents is part of volunteering with Jersey Hospice and I cannot endorse the joy and satisfaction of the work enough to those thinking of volunteering too.

‘Hospice is not how you picture it in your mind - if you give it a go you’re in for a very pleasant surprise.’
