Susannah Swan volunteers at Beresford Street Kitchen
'I retired from teaching and I had more free time. I volunteer for Aspire Charitable Trust which runs Beresford Street Kitchen and Hougue Bie Tea Rooms. My role is to support the crew front of house, in the kitchen and on the tills. I shadow really, as they must do the job themselves.
'Working there makes me feel happy. There is so much love and positive feedback. I would say – make the leap and find a charity that you would like to volunteer for. It is such a rewarding thing to do. You really do feel like you are making a difference.'
