Sarah volunteers at EYECAN

With both children grown up and off to University, I needed a new purpose in life. I heard that EYECAN were looking for volunteers and thought this would be an ideal opportunity to get involved in something new.

Initially I helped out at the Day Centre where we served the members lunch and helped with quizzes etc.  With my background in teaching I was then asked if I would help with the arts and crafts group on a Wednesday.  I now have been doing this every Wednesday for a few hours and primarily work one-on-one with a lovely lady who needs this level of support - we do a range of arts from painting to mosaics and flower arranging and sometimes we even just sit outside in the sun and talk.

I would thoroughly recommend this type of volunteering as its hugely rewarding for both the charity and the volunteer.
